Chapter 17

Level 2

A warm sensation washed over me, as if someone had poured a cup of hot tea directly into my veins. It started from my chest and radiated outward to my limbs, leaving a slight afterglow on my fingertips. My vision blurred momentarily, replaced by a translucent interface that appeared before my eyes.

Congratulations! Level Up!

Rogue Hammersmith Level 2 Achieved!

Please assign one skill point.

I looked at the stats with growing excitement. It appeared that I had three new attribute points. I wondered if they were assigned based on the work that I had done during the leveling process. The charisma surprised me a bit, but I supposed that I had gained that by leading that blacksmithing team.

I felt lighter on my feet and looked at my new health and mana, up five points each.

Apparently, leveling up gave me a skill point to use. I thought about my upcoming duel and where my skill point would be most impactful. If I wasn't able to use a weapon of my own creation, then the forged bond skill wouldn't do anything for me.

And if I leveled up my Mystic Forging skill, maybe I could get some new runes to try out. Suddenly, I realized that Master Blacksmith was coming either tonight or tomorrow night, and we were going to be crafting again together.

Without further thought, I added my point to my Mystic Forging skill. I hastily inspected it.

Mystic Smithing: Level 2: Number of runes allowed per blade: 1

New runes added to catalog:

Vak | +2 stealth, 3 mana/sec

Zurd | +4 speed, 3 mana/sec

Existing Runes:

Vash | +2 dexterity, 2 mana/sec

Gurol | +2 strength, 2 mana/sec

I looked over the new runes with interest. I thought of all the possibilities. A sword with a strength bonus, a dagger with a stealth bonus - the possibilities were endless. Although, I hoped that the amount of attribute increase would also go up as my skill leveled.

I asked the guard who walked back to the main cell block with me if dinner was still on, and he shook his head no. So we went directly back to my cell, as my stomach grumbled in protest.

As we walked, I found myself thinking about the missed dinner, envisioning a steaming plate of stew and a thick chunk of bread. In prison, meals became a highlight, not for their taste but for their ability to break up the monotony of the day.

Reaching the cell block, the large iron door creaked open. The typical cacophony of the inmates, a mix of banter, arguments, and the occasional burst of laughter, greeted me. My fellow inmates were settled in for the night, some playing cards, some reading, and some just chatting away. As I made my way to my cell, a few acknowledged me with nods, having heard about my challenge to the newcomer. A couple even slapped me on the back, whispering encouragements and giving playful jabs.

Nayal was inside our cell, engrossed in reading. He looked up as I entered.
